The Bills had a major letdown last week in a home loss to the New York Giants, but this week at 2-2 will look to get back on track when they take on the Tennessee Titans in Nashville.
Buffalo will again be without main running back LeSean McCoy, but have gotten a big year from backup Karlos Williams. Here’s the problem, he’s out as well, as he has a concussion, prompting Buffalo to sign free agent Dan Herron on Tuesday.
Boobie Dixon is expected to get the start against the Titans at the running back spot. It will put more pressure on QB Tyrod Taylor, who has been a bright spot for the offense, completing 71.7 percent of his passes for 988 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
However, he’s tossed four of each in the two losses and faces a defense that ranks sixth with an average of 308.3 yards – 194.7 through the air.
The Bills may have to score quite a bit against the Titans, as their defense, which was supposed to be strong with new coach Rex Ryan, frankly hasn’t played all that well.
The Buffalo D is 22nd overall in yards allowed at 376.2 per game after giving up 312.2 to rank fourth last year. Despite boasting three Pro Bowl defensive linemen, the Bills have only managed seven sacks after leading the league with 54 in 2014.
Titans rookie Marcus Mariota has been very up and down in a 1-2 start. He was so good in week one there was only one way to go after that, and the team lost the following week vs the Browns, and then lost a tough game at home to the Colts.
Mariota has hit 63.5 percent of his passes for 833 yards, eight TDs and two picks. However, both of those interceptions led to Indianapolis touchdowns in the loss.
The Titans running back spot has been bounced around as well, as Bishop Sankey, Dexter McCluster and Antonio Andrews have taken turns leading the Titans in rushing in each game this season.
“We don’t know each week who it’s going to be,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “We have different things for those guys every week and I think it’s a good thing that we’ve had all the contributions from those guys. So I think it’s a good thing and hopefully that continues.”
The Bills defense has to play better, if they don’t Mariota will carve them up. Look for the Titans to have a solid day on offense, and to outscore the Bills who have just not played as well as expected after a quick start.
