With the Buffalo Bills updating their COVID-19 vaccine mandate at Highmark Stadium for the remainder of the 2021 season, 762 Buffalo Bills fans took advantage of a limited window the team allowed to cancel their season tickets and receive a full refund.
But these cancellations came at a pretty steep price, as by doing so the fans forfeited the rights to their seats for good, and losing their seniority for future season tickets as well. If they want season tickets in the future, they now go to the end of the line.
So how did we get here? With COVID cases rising, New York officials decided to mandate vaccinations for all who attended games at Highmark Stadium. But unlike other event organizers, the western New York franchises decided against offering an alternate of providing a recent negative COVID-19 screening for entry. Essentially, it’s either show proof of vaccination, or you’re denied entry to the game.
Knowing that this new rule might catch people off-guard, the team gave fans a bit of a grace period to get their COVID shot lined up. Anyone attending a game in Buffalo must have had at least their first dose of a COVID vaccination by Sunday’s game against Washington, and must have the second shot by the home game on October 31st.
While this might seem like an extreme move by the team (especially with people losing their place in line for future season tickets), this is being done for the safety of everyone, so I’m ok with the decision they made.
What are your thoughts on the Bills’ vaccine requirement?
