Rex Ryan Not Aware Of Reports of Forthcoming Firing

Rex Ryan

For the second week in a row, a national website reported before kickoff that the Bills could fire coach Rex Ryan in the coming weeks. But interestingly, ESPN added Sunday that not only is Ryan’s dismissal forthcoming, he’s aware that he’ll be fired.

Ryan denied that report after beating the winless Browns, 33-13, Nick Veronica of the Buffalo News reports.

“Trust me, that one’s definitely not accurate. I don’t know where some of these things come in,” Ryan said. “I’m absolutely not aware of that.”

“I know this is bad, it seems like it,” he added, “but to me it’s, hey – I’m just going, business as usual, getting my team ready. Now, is there negative talk, do I understand it? Yeah, I get it. But all I can do is affect what’s right in front of me and get this team to play up to our abilities and I think that’s what we did.”

When firing rumors circulated late last season, team owner Terry Pegula released a statement backing both Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley. But with the reports exponentially more intense this season, ownership has been silent on the issue. Ryan, however, said he didn’t need a vote of confidence from Terry or Kim Pegula.

“Of course you’d appreciate that, but it’s not necessary,” Ryan said. “That’s how I look at it. I just want to go – I’m going to go beat Miami. We owe them that. They’re going to get the very best we have.”
