Talks Going Nowhere Fast Between Bills and CB Stephon Gilmore

Stephon Gilmore

Contract talks between the Bills and contract-year cornerback Stephon Gilmore “haven’t progressed” and he is likely to play out the final season of his rookie deal according to Ian Rapoport of

Gilmore is said to be seeking Josh Norman-type money in the vicinity of $15 million a year and the Bills are not willing to go that high, particularly since the talented corner has stayed fully healthy for only one season in his four-year NFL career and is coming off shoulder surgery. Originally the No.10-overall pick in the 2012 draft out of South Carolina, Gilmore is a rising star but is not yet considered one of the truly elite corners in the league.

The 25-year-old hinted earlier this offseason that he would consider holding out of training camp without a new deal but that would make him subject to hefty fines. He is expected to report on time when camp starts next week. Gilmore will be a candidate for the franchise tag in 2017.
