With Rex Ryan coming aboard to try and give the Bills a whole lot of new energy into their club, the team also got a boost with the recent restricted free agent pickup of tight end Charles Clay, who came to the team from the rival Miami Dolphins.

To say Clay is excited to come to the Bills, a team on the rise, is an understatement.

“It goes to show how much they actually value me,” Clay said. “… I felt like I was one of those guys from the very second I stepped on the plane. Just getting the chance to meet and talk with the Pegulas, such down to earth people.

“Just getting the chance to meet with them and fly up with Rex and with Greg Roman and Tony Sparano Jr., I was very impressed. They had me excited before I even got to Buffalo. I was ready to sign before I even got here. I was very excited.”

Clay is set to be a big part of the new look offense for the Bills. He got a monster contract to join the Bills, signing a deal with $24.5 million in guaranteed money.

The Bills went out of their way to impress the tight end, sending Terry and Kim Pegula’s private plane down in Florida to head to Western New York just for him to visit.

He also got a ride in a plane with new coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Greg Roman. After talking to both of them, and getting a feel of the team that made him a huge offer, he was ready to say ‘yes’ to leaving South Beach and joining the blue collar Bills who are looking to reach the promise land for the first time in years.

“When you look at the organization as a whole, new owners, new coaching staff, a lot of the moves they made this offseason, I was kind of intrigued by it before I even took my visit,” Clay said.

“I could kind of get a sense that they were a team that they were on the rise, you know they were a team that was looking to win right away. That’s definitely something I was excited to have an opportunity to be a part of.”

Last season catching passes from Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill, he pulled in 58 passes for 603 yards and three scores. In his career he has 161 catches for 1809 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Those are totals he’s excited to add to in 2015, and with a new team that is committed to showing him off in their new look offense, there’s no doubt it can happen.

“I don’t care if we throw the ball 50 times a game, we run the ball 50 times a game,” Clay said.

“At the end of the day, I just want to win. That’s what it all boils down to in this league, is wins and losses, so if we’re running the ball 50 times a game and we’re winning, I don’t think anyone will be complaining.”
