Bills Pound Jets 38-3 in Home Game Played in Detroit

Bad weather and a home game played on the road didn’t stop the Bills Monday night, as they demolished their AFC East rivals the Jets in Detroit 38-3 to improve to 6-5 on the year and stay in the AFC Playoff race.

Kyle Orton threw two touchdown passes in the win, and WR Robert Woods pulled off a great one-handed catch that was the highlight of the runaway win.

A number of Bills fans made the ride from Buffalo to Detroit, and made their presence felt with the Bills logo on the field making it as close to a home game as they could make it at Ford Field.

Orton threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Woods in the first quarter, and the second-year receiver’s one-handed catch set up another touchdown in the second.

Tight end Scott Chandler caught a 19-yard scoring pass from Orton to make it 14-3 late in the half, and the Bills defense stuffed the Jets the whole night.

The Bills put the game away in the third quarter, scoring 17 points. Boobie Dixon blocked a punt and Manny Lawson recovered it in the end zone, and Fred Jackson added a 5-yard touchdown run.

Michael Vick went 7 of 19 for 76 yards for the Jets before being replaced by Geno Smith in the third quarter. The Jets missed a great chance at the end of the first half, when the Bills inexplicably let Eric Decker slip behind the defense with only a few seconds left, and Vick’s pass sailed inches beyond the receiver’s grasp.

Buffalo, which has not made the playoffs since the 1999 season, is a game out of a wild card in the AFC.

Orton went 24 of 32 for 230 yards. Woods caught nine passes for a career-high 118 yards.

Dixon’s 30-yard run in the fourth made it 38-3.

The Bills are hopeful they can play at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Sunday as they take on the 7-4 Cleveland Browns.
