Bills Set to Ink Jarron Gilbert Off Jets Practice Squad

The Bills will sign defensive lineman/tight end Jarron Gilbert off the Jets’ practice squad.

A third-round pick out of San Jose State by the Bears in 2009, the 6-foot-5, 285-pound Gilbert had one tackle in four games as a rookie, but was waived and claimed by the Jets before the start of the 2010 regular season. Gilbert shuffled on and off the Jets’ practice squad in 2010, making one tackle in one game, and was in the process of being converted to tight end while on the team’s practice squad this season.

Under the league’s collective bargaining agreement, players signed to an active roster from another team’s practice squad are guaranteed three game checks, regardless of whether or not they remain on the roster during that period of time. For Gilbert, that amounts to just under $93,000 between now and January 1.

In 14 weeks on the Jets’ practice squad, Gilbert earned just under $80,000.

The Bills have not officially announced the addition of Gilbert, which will require an additional transaction to fit him on the 53-man roster.
