ESPN’s Trent Dilfer: “No Brainer for Bills to Take Cam Newton”

Earlier today during ESPN’s “On the Clock” series which chronicles all 32 NFL teams and their needs on draft day, the Buffalo Bills were on the clock and roundtable discussion of what diretion the Bills could or should head.  Draft analyst Mel Kiper believes that Buffalo will look for perhaps the most dynamic, natural pass rusher in the draft, OLB Von Miller from Texas A & M.  Kiper also feels that if the Bills believe current quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is the right guy to have under center, then they don’t have to use their third choice on Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert and address their defensive deficiencies with the third pick.

Here comes the rub.

In talking with head coach Chan Gailey, Chris Mortensen stated that even though Gailey wouldn’t rule out a quaterback as a possibility at No.3, Gailey believes the Bills can win a championship with Fitzpatrick.  Apparently, Trent Dilfer isn’t buying what Gailey’s attempting to sell.

Dilfer said that Fitzpatrick could be the answer for the Bills, but strictly in a short term period for a window of a couple years.  He firmly demonstrated his support fo Cam Newton, even going as far to say that if he’s available at No.3, “it would be a no-brainer for the Bills to select Newton”.    Here’s a bit of Dilfer’s reasoning as to why he makes so much sense for the Buffalo provided he’s still available…

“His unique skill set is going to fit Buffalo.  He spins the ball at an incredibly high rate. He can knife it through the wind and the bad weather.  His physicality in the run game will help them in bad-weather games, in the short-yardage game. ”

What about it Bills fans?  Let me hear what you think.  Do you agree with Dilfer’s assessment and Newton’s the guy for the Bills if  he’s there at No.3, or do you go Kiper’s route, fix your pass rush problem with the addition of Miller?
