Kiper Jr. Says the Bills Should Go with Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen

ESPN draftmaster Mel Kiper explains his latest mock draft and talks about why he has Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen slotted as the ninth overall selection to the Buffalo Bills.

“They need a quarterback,” Kiper said. “They also need an offensive tackle. I think people are warming to Jimmy Clausen. They realize when they do their research and their due diligence that this kid is a guy that was highly regarded by his teammates, voted captain. [Former Notre Dame defensive coordinator] Jon Tenuta raves about this kid. Defensive players rave about him. I think he’s gong to be a guy moving up.”

me beloved Bills need so much. but first and foremost, they need a quarterback…then you work on the line…everything else should fall into place as long as those making the decisions are smart about it…The Colts needed plenty when they drafted Peyton Manning but thats where they started…not saying Clausen is the next Manning, but based on the futility that we have seen these last ten yrs I think taking a chance on a quarterback is the way to go…No more defensive backs, please. at least not in the first round.

Mel, your suggestion about Clausen is not crazy, but how many rookie QBs do well? (Ok, ok, Sanchez, Flacco, Ryan … but most take years to develop). I say trade Marshawn Lynch to St. Louis for QB Mark Bulger. Bulger is only 32 and has a great arm. When he was healthy, he beat out Kurt Warner which is why St. Louis traded Warner. St. Louis needs a backup for Steven Jackson at RB. This trade will get rid of Lynch who is not that good and bring in a quality QB for 2 years to develop Brian Brohm who was the 3rd string QB at Green Bay until traded to Buffalo mid-season. St. Louis will then sign Michael Vick as their QB.

What about Paul Duncan from ND? He ran a 20yd shuttle at his pro day that was better than most LBs and some RBs and he’s 6’7″ 310lbs! Someone is going to scoop the kid from Dallas, GA up earlier than we think! I think we need to grab him in the 3rd round before the Dolphins do!!!!! I saw that the Jags OL coach is a former O-linemen from ND…they may scoop the kid up earlier than people think.
