Bills Force Six Turnovers; Top Jets 16-13 in OT

They lost their quarterback, they gave up 210 yards to Jets back Thomas Jones, they were only 5-for-16 on third down. But hey, they won. Yes, it’s finally a happy day again in Buffalo, as the Bills walked out of New Jersey with an overtime 16-13 victory over the New York Jets and rookie QB Mark Sanchez.

They needed close to 73 minutes of football to do it, but it sure did feel good for the Bills to finally get a win on the road vs an AFC East team. Rian Lindell’s 47-yard field goal with 2:44 left in overtime gave the Bills a much needed win to move to 2-4 on the season.

“We said on the sideline we weren’t going to find a way to lose this,” said running back Fred Jackson. “We were going to find a way to win, and that’s what we did.” The team picked off Sanchez five times, and used that along with the play of backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to secure a win that should take the heat off coach Dick Jauron for at least one week.

“I can’t say enough about that group of guys,” said Jauron. “They won’t quit no matter what happens.” The Bills allowed the Jets to go for 318 yards rushing, and after Lindell missed a 46-yard field goal that would have won the game on the last play of regulation.

As far as the picks, rookie safety Jairus Byrd got two, while Reggie Corner, George Wilson, John Wendling and Paul Posluszny got the others. The win in OT was helped out by the final drive by Fitzpatrick, playing for an injured Trent Edwards, as he led the team on a nine play march 29 yards to the Jets’ 29-yard line.

“We just were not performing very well at all the last three weeks and we’re just looking for different ways to give ourselves a spark,” Jauron said.

And they did that, and today, the team and mood is a whole lot happier for it.

I cannot believe they won against the Jets after they lost to Cleveland! I guess the Bills still have a few surprises in them.
