ESPN’s Insider section just did a full-scale blowout about the salary cap for each and every team around the league. Here’s what they had to say on the Bills:
2009 Salary Cap: $127,997,000
Player with Highest Cap Number: DE Aaron Schobel ($8,571,191; 6.7% of cap)
Highest Cap Number for a Player No Longer with Club: G Derrick Dockery ($5,400,000; 4.2% of cap, seventh on club)
Player Who Has to Live Up to Cap Number: DE Aaron Schobel ($8,571,191; 6.7% of cap)
What does it say about the Bills if they drafted DE Aaron Maybin in the first round of the 2009 draft when two of their highest 2009 cap numbers belong to defensive ends Aaron Schobel (first) and Chris Kelsay (fourth with a 2009 cap number of $5,600,000)? Clearly the drafting of Maybin shows that the Bills felt they weren’t receiving the type of return on Schobel and Kelsay that they had expected.
