The Bills have been worried about who is going to run the football when starting RB Marshawn Lynch would be sitting out the first three games with a suspension, and on Saturday, they may have found their man. The team has come to terms on a two-year deal with running back Dominic Rhodes.
The eight-year vet easily can carry the load for Lynch, as he has shown in the past that he can be very good in supporting roles. Rhodes became a free agent this offseason after spending last year with Indianapolis. The deal was announced Saturday and comes after Rhodes visited the Bills this past week.
Rhodes joins an offense that will hopefully be more high powered when the 09 season starts. The Bills have added this offseason Terrell Owens, and they also have revamped their offensive line after trading Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters to Philadelphia on Friday and releasing left guard Derrick Dockery in February.
Rhodes spent the 2007 season with Oakland and returned to the Colts last season, sharing starting duties with Joseph Addai. In 15 games, Rhodes had 538 yards rushing, including a team-leading six touchdowns rushing. He added 302 yards receiving and three TDs receiving.
Meanwhile, third-year backup Fred Jackson is unhappy over contract talks. The Bills control Jackson’s rights after offering him a $460,000 tender. Jackson, however, has yet to accept while attempting to negotiate a long-term deal.

Reminds me of the Thurmanator. Dom can really catch the ball. His numbers diminished with Oakland because they don’t know how to use him. Indy did, and his numbers were solid on a YP/touch basis.
I dare say if Beanie Wells is available at 28, which he might be, Fred Jackson might not get re-signed. That’s a shame, Jackson’s argument is pretty solid.
All I want from the draft is a top 4 Tackle, (Oher would be preferred over Brown) or Pettigrew, (let’s pretend Demetrious Bell is Jason Peters redux, Walker at L, Chambers T or G, Bell at the other T or G, Geoff is the C, McKinney and a draft pick at back up), Robert Ayers, (Maybin is 3-4 LB and Evrette Brown is a little slender), and the sleeper steal in the third USF LB Tyrone Mckenzie, he can play all three LB positions. I love USF players in the late rounds as well, their program seems to have players that match well with the Bills scheme. Great LBs like Ben Moffit who was drafted last year, outside rushers like George Selvie who will come out next year. Great DBs and WRs.
