Evans Play May Be the Biggest Key for the Bills in 09

Lee Evans says that Lee Evans’ play with T.O. will be the teams biggest reason for making or missing the playoffs in 09:

The reasons why Terrell Owens might prove disastrous in Buffalo are abundant and have been discussed ad nauseam over the airwaves and in the papers. Among the reasons Owens might not become the divisive force he was in his three prior NFL stops is the unique player he was brought in to complement — Lee Evans. The receiver some believe to be among the more underappreciated talents in the league couldn’t stray further from the showboating, spotlight-hoarding and ball-demanding paradigm many of the other premier receivers in the league subscribe to. Case in point: How many top-flight wideouts would question the sense of his offense throwing the ball near the goal line rather than pounding it in via the running game, as Evans did following Buffalo’s Week 14 loss to Miami?

Those close to the receiver insist his calming, humble aura could rub off on Owens — not to mention keep defenses honest. The irony in this is that a lack of in-your-face fire from any of the club’s marquee performers was often cited as one of the reasons the Bills couldn’t escape their downward spiral last season. This much can be stated definitely: The receiving dynamic bears monitoring and will have a major impact on whether the Bills reach the postseason for the first time since the 1999 season.
