Bills Season Gone w/ The Wind in 13-0 Loss to Patriots

A tough season closed out in one of the weirdest weather games on Sunday in Ralph Wilson Stadium, as the Bills concluded the 2008 season at 7-9 with a 13-0 loss to the New England Patriots.  The game was played with winds that at times were gusting up to 60 miles per hour.  There was thought to delay the game after the goal posts were slanted before the game due to the winds, but they played on.  Or at least tried.

Both teams didn’t do much on offense, but the Pats, playing for a shot to get in the postseason, played with a little more heart and desire than the Bills, who were without leading rusher Marshawn Lynch. “It’s been a trying season,” receiver Lee Evans said. “We weren’t used to winning at the beginning of the season, so you can learn as much as you can from that. Learning how to win is key.”

The Bills wrap up the year at 7-9 after starting the year at 5-1.  They were only able to manage 276 yards of offense, and Trent Edwards was 14-for-25 for 128 yards.  Pats QB Matt Cassel tried just 8 throws, and was 6-for-8 for 78 yards in the windy conditions.

The only TD of the game came in the third quarter, as the Pats went 11 plays and 43 yards in 6 minutes wrapping it up with a two-yard run by LaMont Jordan to make it a 10-0 game.  Jordan did have a decent game for the Pats, rushing for 64 yards on 20 carries.

The Bills were led on offense by Fred Jackson, playing for Lynch, as he had 136 yards on 27 carries.  The Bills did have an 11-play drive that went 75 yards, but were unable to convert on anything as the half ran out on them as Jackson ran for three yards from the Pats 15.  The half ran out and again the Bills were held scoreless, ending the half at 3-0 New England.

The second half was not much better, as the Bills had a fumble, punt, and two drives end on downs before having a final possession with 1:03 to go that ended the game.  Needless to say it’s going to be a tough offseason for a team that seemed to be a legit challenger in early October.
