The Bills’ demise could be a boon for Jason Peters’ bank account. After holding out throughout all of training camp last offseason to no avail, Peters earned a second straight Pro Bowl berth protecting his quarterbacks’ blind side. With two years remaining on his contract, the Bills would appear to have ample time to consummate an extension for a player who’s proved worthy of one, but uncertainty in the front office could prompt a deal sooner rather than later.
Given the team’s slide, there are rumblings that Bills brass needs to take a more proactive approach toward shaping the roster in order to convince owner Ralph Wilson that they’re worthy of keeping their jobs. And even if there is a front-office shake up, whoever assumes control of personnel would likely be brought in with the understanding that maintaining the roster’s status quo is not an option.
