Bills Start Slow; Finish Fast in Opening Day 34-10 Win

It didn’t start out pretty, but the Bills ended up finding their stride leading to a 34-10 drubbing of the Seattle Seahawks.

The first few offensive possessions were eerily reminiscent of the Bills’ recent history, with incomplete passes and 2 yard runs abound.

The offense seemed to turn it around though after Trent Edwards hit Lee Evans for a 32 yard pass putting the Bills into scoring range. Marshawn Lynch would make it 7-0 Buffalo with a 21-yard run, aided by a great block by Lee Evans downfield.

The Bills defense was strong all day long, getting in Matt Hasselback’s face early and often. Hasselback never did get into a rhythm completing only 17 of 41 passes. The Seahawks offense noticeably missed the service of veteran receivers Bobby Engram and Deion Branch. Their replacements were largely ineffective, and Seattle’s WR woes only got worse as featured receiver Nate Burleson suffered what looked to be a serious injury in the second half.

Roscoe Parrish put the Bills up 14-0 with a tantalizing 63 yard punt return, making almost every Seahawk on the field miss him.

The Bills Special Teams unit would put the game away with a fake field-goal in the third quarter. Ryan Denney pretended to walk off the field but stopped just short at the near sideline. None of the Seahawks seemed to notice and holder Brian Mormon simply lofted the ball out to Denney who easily walked in to put the Bills up 27-10.

Robert Royal would add the exclamation point on the win with a 30 yard touchdown reception on a deep pass over the middle in traffic making it 34-10.

Trent Edwards finished 19/30 for 215 yards and 1 Touchdown. More importantly, Edwards protected the ball. Marshawn Lynch looked dynamic running for 76 yards and adding 18 more through the air. All in all, Dick Jauron and the Bills must be smiling tonight in Buffalo.

The Bills travel to Jacksonville to face the (0-1) Jacksonville Jaguars next week.
