It Doesn’t Matter if We Overpaid for Kyle Williams

Some people have wondered whether Kyle Williams is worth the 3yr/14.5 million the Bills signed him to. I mean after all, he was a big part of an interior defense that was totally unable to stop the run last year. To those who think Williams wasn’t worth it, consider the following:

The Bills sent a clear message to their young players with this signing.

Unlike the Sabres who have proven to be unwilling to reward promising young players with lucrative contracts, the Bills have chosen a different path (at least in this case). A signing like this one could help players like Ko Simpson, John McCargo, etc. At least they know that if they improve, they won’t have to leave Buffalo to be rewarded.

Only 5.7 million was guaranteed

If all the praise defensive coaches are bestowing on Williams turns out to be a bunch of hype, we’ve only committed ourselves to 5.7 million.

At the end of the day, this deal was a no-brainer and all Bills fans should be excited about it.
