Defense Does the Dirty Work in 13-3 Win Over Jets

Buffalo Bills cornerback Terrence McGee, left, celebrates with Larry Tripplett after McGee intercepted a pass against the New York Jets during fourth quarter

The Bills continue to get better as the season goes along, as Sunday afternoon they wrapped a sweep of the New York Jets with an impressive defensive effort in a 13-3 win in New Jersey.  The Bills were led by wide out Lee Evans, who scored on an 85-yard TD with 3:38 left to make a 6-3 Bills lead a 13-3 lead as they sealed their third win of the season.  “It’s a terrific win for us,” Buffalo coach Dick Jauron said. “If you’re going to be a team with any chance, you’ve got to stack wins. To come in here and be able to win was a huge project for us. It was ugly at times, but they did it.”

The win for Buffalo is their third in four games, and they had to do some of it without starting QB Trent Edwards, who left the game in the third quarter with a sprained wrist.  “The X-rays came back negative,” said Edwards, whose wrist was wrapped. “We’ll reevaluate it tomorrow.”  J.P. Losman, who was replaced by Edwards for good this past week, led the team on two second half scoring drives to help them get the win.

The Bills will look to get to .500 for the first time since the start of the season next week as they host the 2-5 Cincinnati Bengals.  The Jets season of woe continues next Sunday when they stay at home to play the Washington Redskins.
