With the Bills precariously close to having a dangerous shortage at cornerback the club signed free agent Dustin Fox to their practice squad Wednesday.

The former third-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings (2005) was most recently with the Philadelphia Eagles. He spent most of last season on the Eagles practice squad, though he was briefly called up to the active roster for two weeks appearing in one game.

He was re-signed by Philadelphia last offseason, but was released in final cuts Sept.1.

A former four-year starter at Ohio State, Fox will recognize some faces on Buffalo’s roster as he played with Tim Anderson, Donte Whitner and Ashton Youboty in college.

Fox provides the Bills with cornerback insurance as they currently have just four healthy corners on the roster, and previously had none on the practice squad.

Buffalo put starting cornerback Jason Webster on injured reserve after he suffered a broken forearm in the opener that required surgery.

To make room on the practice squad for Fox, the Bills released defensive back Jon Corto.
